Diva is a beautifully restored classic wooden yawl. Designed by Sparkman & Stephens, she was built in 1956 by the Abeking and Rasmussen Yacht Yard in Germany, making her a true Pedigree. Originally called "Northern Light", she is featured in the book "The Best of the Best" by Kinney and Bourne, which showcases what are considered to be among the best of the Sparkman and Stephens designs.
The yacht was commissioned by Judson Shafer who was seeking a fast, comfortable and seaworthy vessel. She soon caught the eye of A. Lee Loomis- famous American businessman, competitive yachtsman and long-time Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. After watching her impressive performance in races Loomis purchased the boat for the Newport to Bermuda Race in which she performed very well.
In more recent years Diva's owners have enjoyed her as a blue water cruising boat. She has crossed the Atlantic several times and spent much time in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Diva participated in the 2003 Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. She placed second in the "Concours d'Elegance", a prestigious recognition awarded to those who maintain their classic yachts to the highest standards.
Though retaining her classic charm, she is also fully equipped with state-of-the-art Raytheon equipment, including radar, autopilot, GPS, speed, wind, and depth gauges, and repeater. She is also equipped with EPIRB, VHF and SSB radios, as well as a handsome custom cold-molded dinghy.
Diva is currently on a short haul receiving fresh paint and varnish and will be re-launched soon, fully ready for cruising or the Classic Boat Regatta circuit.
